Odysseus the Hemingway Hero

I believe that Odysseus, from The Odyssey, is the most similar to a Hemingway hero. One obvious characteristic is that he is brave and this is shown when he battles dangerous creatures like the cyclops and the scylla. More proof of Odysseus’s bravery is the fact that he has on his way home from the Trojan War. Odysseus is patient with the progress of his journey, that takes 20 years, because he knows that if he is too eager then he is more like to make mistakes that will endanger his life and his crews. A Hemingway hero also possesses the ability to maintain a sense of humor. I wouldn’t say that Odysseus falls into this category completely but he does have a positive attitude throughout his journey. Finally, Odysseus maintains a sense of grace while under pressure. A prime example is when his crew and himself are locked in a cave with the cyclops and he has to devise a plan using limited resources and his wit to save the day. I thought that maybe Odysseus could have been a Modern hero because any man could have been put in his position. Yet, not every man would have prevailed in the end, such as Odysseus.
